- Updates to Copyright Law – European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee voted in favor of updated copyright laws that could restrict use and sharing of copyright material on Internet
- Copyrighted Content Filters – Members of European Parliament (MEPs) voted 15 to 10 for Article 13, which would require platforms, such as Google and Microsoft, to install filters in their software to restrict uploading of copyrighted content by users
- Publishers' Fee Requirement – MEPs also voted 13 to 11 for Article 11, requiring online platforms, including news aggregators, to pay publishers fee for linking to their news content
- Wider Vote – Law will pass wider European Parliament vote on July 2018
- Opposition – 70 technology leaders, including World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and Internet Protocol co-inventor Vint Cerf, opposed Article 13 in open letter to Antonio Tajani, president of European Parliament, on June 12, 2018, concerned about "automated surveillance and control of users"
