  • Defense AI Competition – U.K. Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), innovation arm of Ministry of Defence, announced competition to design artificial intelligence systems for warships on January 14, 2020
  • Intelligent Ship Project – Part of wider “Intelligent Ship – The Next Generation” competition announced in June 2019, which will propose technologies to enhance decision making, mission planning and automation of military
  • Phase One Development – Nine projects will develop technologies and solutions to solve information overload from thousands of data sources analyzed by crews through automation, autonomy, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Phase Two Assessment – Projects in Phase One will inform types of AI platforms that can be adapted and integrated to existing fleet
  • $5.2 Million Funding – Will provide £4 million ($5.2 million) in total funding for both phases of competition, with £1 million ($1.3 million) reserved for Phase One
  • Innovation Potential – Can change the way platforms of U.K. Defence, including Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force, are designed, collaborated, operated and manned by 2040s
