- Qualcomm Snapdragon NPE SDK – Qualcomm announced launch of Snapdragon NPE software development kit on Qualcomm Developer Network, first deep learning software framework created for Snapdragon Mobile Platforms
- Snapdragon Overview – System-on-a-chip used in Android and Windows Mobile smartphones that includes central processing unit (CPU), graphic processor, wireless modem, and others to enable smartphone operating systems and other functionalities
- Benefits – Provide developers with software tools to run deep learning and artificial intelligence features and user experiences (e.g. augmented reality, scene detection, facial recognition, natural language understanding, object tracking and avoidance, gesturing, and text recognition) on existing mobile hardware
- Features – Supports deep learning programs and common deep learning frameworks, such as Caffe, Caffe2, and Tensorflow, and is compatible with Snapdragon 600 and 800 Series Mobile Platforms
- Facebook Adoption – Plans to integrate Snapdragon NPE to add augmented reality support to mobile app which can achieve five times better performance on Adreno graphics processing unit (GPU) compared to generic central processing unit (CPU)
