- 3D Printed Implant – Medical facility The Yellow Ribbon collaborated with 3D printing firms Osteo3D and implantcast GmbH to develop 3D printed pelvic implant for patient in India
- Bone Tumor – Patient had rare form of bone tumor called chondromyxoid fibroma, or CMF, in pelvis area, causing severe pain in left hip and impairing ability to lift weight or walk
- Tumor Removal – First part of procedure required doctors to remove tumor as well as cut portion of thigh bone to make sure no tumor tissue was left
- Hip Reconstruction – Second phase was for doctors to reconstruct hip using 3D printed implant
- Customization – Team took Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) scans of pelvic area to create digital model for implant that was biocompatible and patient-specific
- Patient Recovery – Combined with therapy, patient was able to walk normally after two months without limping or relying on support, such as crutches
