- Largest 3D Printed Passenger Aircraft Part – Qatar Airways will install largest 3D printed part for passenger aircraft, the Curtain Comfort Header, with size of 1140 x 720 x 240 millimeters, an enclosure for curtain rail used to separate different classes, on its Airbus A350 XWB jet airliner
- Developers – Include aerospace manufacturer Diehl Aviation and aerospace company Airbus
- 12 Components – Made up of 12 3D printed components using fused deposition modeling (FDM), which deposits material layer-by-layer, and are glued together upon completion
- One-Year Development – Took 12 months to develop from concept to delivery, including aircraft certification from European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)
- Advantages and Benefits – Allows for customization such as including emergency escape route signages, specialized retaining clips, and other retrofits to improve passenger experience, as well as shorter production processes leading to faster turnaround times, and easier maintenance as parts can be removed for repairs or replacement
- Public Showcase – Will be showcased at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2019 in Hamburg, Germany
