- AI Debater – Technology giant IBM built artificial intelligence (AI), called Project Debater, that successfully discoursed with two Israeli expert debaters at IBM’s Watson West site in San Francisco on June 18, 2018
- Debate Program and Topics – Each debater had to make four-minute opening statement, four-minute rebuttal, and two-minute summary for or against subsidization of space exploration and increased use of telemedicine
- Factual Arguments – In opening statement, AI presented facts collected from internal database comprised of different sources, such as newspapers, journals, and others
- No Pre-Training – AI was not pre-trained on any topic and did not know topic in advance
- Audience Opinion – Quick audience poll showed people thought that IBM’s AI enriched their knowledge more than human debaters
