- First Electric Car – Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced country’s first domestic electric vehicle project under brand TOGG (Turkey’s Automobile Joint Venture Group), unveiling prototype of cars on December 24, 2019
- Industry Consortium – TOGG is headed by consortium of five companies, including conglomerates Anadolu Group, Kok Group, and Zorlu Holding, commercial vehicle manufacturer BMC, and mobile network operator Turkcell
- $3.7 Billion Investment – $3.7 billion in investment will enable production of five models and output of 175,000 vehicles per year
- Commercialization – First commercial vehicle said to be ready by 2022, with electric sedan comparable to Tesla Model S also underway
- Performance – Car will have range of 310 miles with higher capacity battery pack, similar to Tesla Model X, and 186 miles with lower performance battery
- Future Plans – Erdoğan also plans to setup electric vehicle charging infrastructure, add Level 3 and beyond autonomous driving capabilities, and holographic and augmented reality in-car experience
