Note: Data based on RightScale's 2018 State of the Cloud survey of 997 information technology (IT) buyers of cloud infrastructure and related technologies, with 3.08 margin of error. Better financial reporting and automated policies for governance were only included in 2018 study.

Proof Point Findings

  • Cloud Computing – Computing services (e.g. servers, storage, databases, networking, software, and analytics) delivered through Internet
  • Efficient Cloud Implementation – 58% of IT cloud buyers in 2018 RightScale survey said they want to optimize existing cloud use, saving on costs, while 38% want to expand use of containers and 34% want to implement Continuous Integration and Delivery
  • Expanded Cloud Use – Respondents also indicated expanded cloud use as top initiative, with 51% planning to move more workloads to cloud, 39% implementing cloud-first strategy, and 33% expanding public clouds use
  • Other Initiatives – Better financial reporting (44%) and automation (42%) other top cloud initiatives selected by IT cloud buyers
  • Key Growth Drivers – Include rising trend of companies digitizing business processes, rapidly emerging new entrants in cloud computing space, and increasing client demand for lower-cost public cloud solutions
