- WasteShark – Dutch environmental technology firm RanMarine developed in 2016 a marine drone that can scoop up to 1,100 pounds of trash in water
- Specifications – Weighs 85 pounds, measures five feet long, and 3.5 feet wide, can last up to 16 hours of battery life, and can be controlled by remote control or an iPad, as well as run autonomously
- Testing – Has undergone tests at Port of Rotterdam in Netherlands, Inner Harbor of Baltimore in Maryland, U.S., and in Dubai for one year
- Deployment – Will be deployed in Dubai Marina in November 2018, through local partner Eco Coast, where it will clean waterfronts for hotels, municipalities, and environmental authorities
- Data Collection – Can also be customized with sensors that collect data on water depth, salinity, chemical makeup, pH balance and temperature
- Pricing – Costs $17,000 for remote-controlled version, while autonomous model is priced under $23,000
