- Safe CRISPR Method – New study by Chinese researchers discovered gene editing method CRISPR-Cas9 does not produce off-target mutations in rhesus macaque monkeys
- Tested on Monkeys – Injected CRISPR-Cas9 into 30 zygotes or fertilized eggs, 24 of which developed normally and were implanted into six female monkeys, two of which got pregnant, with four of five babies surviving
- Study Results – Sequenced whole genomes of baby monkeys and found that CRISPR gene modification worked in all but one, with CRISPR not creating de novo mutations (DNM), mutations that are not inherited
