Proof Point Findings
- Online Card Usage – 81% of global consumers surveyed by Kaspersky Lab used their debit or credit card in purchasing online in 2018
- Online Transfers and Wallets – Other top online payment methods used are bank account transfers (65%), e-wallets (58%) and mobile wallets (33%)
- Reward Programs – Loyalty bonus schemes of receiving points from frequent buying or giving personal information were successful in encouraging consumers to increase spending, as more than half of respondents used it to pay online in 2018
- Technology Adoption – Consumers also showed interest in emerging technologies as 31% used contactless device payments with online purchases, while 13% used cryptocurrencies
- Key Growth Drivers – Include growing consumer adoption of online and cashless payment methods, greater consumer spending, and rapid growth in number of merchants accepting contactless and other emerging payment technologies
