Briefing

  • Robotic Vehicle Testing – U.S. Army will conduct month-long test on robotic combat vehicles (RCVs) at Fort Carson, Colorado in March 2020
  • Future Use and Application – Test will inform Combat Capabilities Development Command's Ground Vehicle Systems Center of next steps for using autonomous vehicles in military or related technologies that could be incorporated to other platforms
  • Remotely Controlled – Soldiers will be operating RCVs from vehicles called the Mission Enabler Technologies-Demonstrator (MET-Ds), which will have cameras and a turret
  • Next Phases – After phase one testing, phase two will commence in late 2021 and phase three will take place in 2023 which will trial more MET-Ds and RCVs
  • Soldier Safety – Such vehicles could be released at point of combat to become first contact with enemy troops when under fire, keeping human soldiers safe
  • Smaller and Faster – Because RCVs will be smaller and faster than current military vehicles, they can provide more space for weapons or fuel
