- Body-on-a-Chip – MIT bioengineers developed body-on-a-chip comprised of engineered tissues from up to 10 organs to simulate response to drugs
- Advantages – More effective than animal testing, as body-on-a-chip can test interaction of drugs to human immune systems, as well as their effect to other organs
- Customization – Can be customized to include multiple and select organs depending on study
- Sample Model – Scientists working on body-on-a-chip, comprised of three organ – brain, liver, and gastrointestinal – tissues, for testing drugs for Parkinson’s Disease
- Other Application – Can also be used to study tumor metastasis, state when cancer cells move to other organs
