  • First Battery-Powered Hotel – Gyle Premier Inn hotel in Edinburgh, U.K. will be first in Britain to be powered by battery
  • Five Ton Battery – Installed five-ton three cubic meter lithium-ion battery from energy company E.ON, which will remotely monitor it from Glasgow energy management facility
  • How It Works – Battery will charge from national grid during off-peak hours, and will power 200-room hotel, including restaurant, for several hours per day
  • Reduced Costs – Will save hotel around £20,000 ($25,500) per year on energy costs
  • Overall Goal – Can help hotel achieve goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2025
