Proof Point Findings
- Satellite Industry – Comprised of satellite services, including consumer services, such as satellite TV, radio, and broadband, Earth observation satellites, and in-flight satellite services, plus ground equipment (e.g. network equipment and navigation satellites), satellite manufacturing, and satellite launches
- Overall Growth – Global satellite industry revenues increased 5% annually between 2012 and 2017, from $209.3 billion to $268.6 billion
- Largest Segments – Satellite services, including satellite TV, radio, broadband, Earth observation satellites, and in-flight satellite services comprised close to half (48%) of satellite industry revenues with slight CAGR growth at 3%, and ground equipment, second largest segment at 45%, growing faster at 10% CAGR
- Smallest Segments – Revenues from satellite launches and satellite manufacturing made up 2% and 6% of total satellite industry revenues, respectively, with satellite launches posting CAGR decline of 5% and satellite manufacturing registering CAGR growth of 1%
- Key Growth Drivers – Include growing satellite radio and broadband subscribers, new entrants or players in earth observation satellites, and sustained launches in key locations, such as China and Europe
