- Atlantic Current at its Weakest – New study by researchers from University College London and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) found the Atlantic current, called Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), that carries warm water towards North Pole is at its weakest in 1,600 years since 400 AD, and 15% weaker than 1850
- Contributed by Climate Change – Human-cased global warming found to affect AMOC, as warmer currents, along with melting Arctic, flood area with less dense freshwater
- Other Climate Change Effects – Global warming can lead to more extreme winters in western Europe, rising sea levels in east U.S., and more tropical rains
