Microsoft launched “Always Connected Devices,” new Asus and HP Windows 10 laptops with ARM processors and 20 hours of battery life

  • “Always Connected Devices” – New Windows 10 Asus and HP laptops with ARM-based Snapdragon 835 processor and X16 LTE modem, offering smartphone-like user experience – quick start, long battery life and wireless long-term evolution (LTE) connectivity
  • Devices and Features – Asus’ NovaGo is foldable Gigabit LTE laptop with 22-hour battery life or 30-day standby, while HP’s Envy x2 Surface clone offers 12.3-inch, 1920×1280 screen, 20-hour battery life or 29-day standby
  • Windows 10 S – Pre-installed operating system that only installs and runs apps from Microsoft Store
  • Intel-ARM Compatibility – Contains x86 emulator that allows most 32-bit x86 Intel-based applications to run unmodified on new ARM system, but 64-bit x86 applications will not be compatible
  • Next Steps – Microsoft and HP talking to mobile network operators for pricing, data plan availability, among others
  • Availability – Devices scheduled for shipping in Spring 2018 with prices still to be determined
  • Possible Lenovo Device – Lenovo also working on similar device yet to be revealed
