- Air Carbon Capture Facility – Carbon Engineering, backed by Bill Gates, building prototype called Air Contactor at University of Calgary in Squamish, British Columbia, which can capture carbon dioxide from air, with plans to produce commercial version in 2017
- How It Works – Air goes through facility, passes through CO2 absorbent liquid, which captures 80% of carbon dioxide, and turns it to carbonate salt
- Alternative Fuel Source – Carbon dioxide separated from carbonate salt can be combined with hydrogen to produce hydrocarbons, used in gasoline or jet fuel production
- Future Potential – Can scale capacity by up to 20,000 times, possibly capturing emissions from 300,000 cars annually
