- Global Urbanization – Expected to continue steady growth, doubling urban population from 3.25 billion or 49% of total in 2006 to 6.4 billion or 70% of total by 2050
- Growth in developing countries – Forecasted to be driven primarily by urban migration, or movement of people from rural to urbanized areas within a country
- Other Key Drivers – Include shift from agriculture-based to more technology and service-driven economies, increasing demand of population for better access to social services (e.g. education, health services) and income opportunities, and continuous economic growth of developing countries enabling conversion of rural areas to urbanized ones
